Tomaten! / Tomatoes!

I had hardly hoped that we would be able to harvest tomatoes, after ALL our tomatoes were affected by late blight in mid-Juli. I removed most of the plants, and cut the rest far back (so that only healthy tissue remained). Blight is highly contagious (the spores disperse readily in warm and wet weather, and remain viable in the soil). I thus threw the affected plants (and plant parts) into the rubbish, and not onto the compost heap. They can also be burned. There was no plant in the whole village that was not affected by blight.

BUT – my radical and fearless intervention paid off. We can at least harvest a handful of tomatoes.
