Freitagsfüller, der 1. (bzw #500)
Ich lese bei Ina immer den Freitagsfüller, und finde die Idee eigentlich ziemlich nett. Und da der Freitagsfüller von Barbara den 500. “Geburtstag” feiert, und es ein prima Anlass ist, zu sehen, ob ich den Blog wieder zum Leben erwecken kann, gibt es den Freitagsfüller zum ersten Mal bei mir.
- Am Nikolaustag bin ich in Rom.
- Ich weigere mich, diesen Winter Schnupfen zu bekommen.
- Hast du den Adventskalender schon aufgehängt?
- Es schneit hoffentlich bald.
- Ich kenne jemanden, der ganz lange Weihnachtswunschlisten malt und schreibt.
- Die Vorweihnachtszeit isr für meine Tochter immer noch sehr spannend.
- Was das Wochenende angeht, heute Abend freue ich mich auf Sofa, Fernsehen und Stricken, morgen habe ich geplant, zu putzen und zu backen und Sonntag möchte ich basteln, stricken und die Füsse hochlegen (da der geplante Besuch des Weihnachtsmarktes in Winterthur wohl wegen Regen ausfällt!

Taking a break
You might have noticed that not very much has been happening here in the last months. There’s quite a lot that has been going on at the end of last year. And I don’t seem to find time for the blog at the moment. It will change, I’m sure.
For the moment – greetings from Medellin, the city of orchids. As usual, I only get see hotel and conference rooms, but will hopefully find time to explore a bit.

Im November zog langsam Normalität ein – und ich bin mal wieder in der Weltgeschichte rumgegondelt. Deshalb gibt es diesen Beitrag gibt es mit Verspätung aus Seoul… Irgendwie häuft sich alles am Jahresende.
Ich habe im November nochmals zwei kleine Tücher gestrickt, sowie eine Mütze. Der Winter hat Einzug gehalten, wärmendes ist also angebracht. Allerdings ging nicht ganz so viel aus meinem Vorrat raus – die Mütze und ein Tuch sind jeweils aus einem geribbelten Exemplar entstanden. Den Schal habe ich geribbelt, weil mir die Form nicht gefiel, die Mütze wurde geribbelt, weil sie zu gross war. Dementsprechend habe ich im November nur 115 g / 422 m aus dem Vorrat verstrickt, ein Knäuel ging raus. Rein kamen gleich 9 – ich brauche dringend eine neue Winterstrickjacke. Die Jacke, die mir in Frankreich den ganzen Winter ausreichte, ist für das Zürcher Oberland nicht warm genug.
Im Garten herrscht jetzt Winterruhe, pünktlich zum Winteranfang ist alles von einer (wenn auch dünnen) Schneeschicht bedeckt.
With November, normality returned – and I am travelling around the world (again). This entry comes to you (with a bit of delay) from Seoul. I knit two more small scarves in November and a hat. Winter has arrived, and it is quite useful to have something warm to wear. I did not make a big dent in my stash, though, as one shawl and the hat were ripped out and knit again. The shawl, because I did not like the shape of it, the hat because it was too big. Thus, I only used 115g / 422 m of yarn in November, 1 skein left the stash. And I added nine – I urgently need a new cardigan for winter. The one I was wearing in Paris when it was cold, is not warm enough for the “Zurich highlands”
The garden is dormant for winter, and covered by a sprinkling of snow.

Je weniger über den Oktober gesagt wird, desto besser.
Auch diesen Monat habe ich mir zwei kleine Tücher gestrickt – wieder ausreichend, um sie einmal um den Hals zu wickeln, und wieder genau richtig für diese Jahreszeit – heute fühlt sich die Luft richtig nach Winter an, und man braucht warmes und wolliges. Verbraucht habe ich dafür 215 g/ 802 m, 2 Knäuel gingen raus. Der nächste kleine Schal ist schon wieder auf den Nadeln – aber dann reicht es erstmal.
Im Garten herrscht so langsam Winterruhe, die Chilis sind gestern ins Haus gezogen, die Erdbeeren werden wohl nicht mehr lange der Witterung trotzen können.

This month, I again knit two small scarves, again just big enough to wrap them around the neck once, and perfect for this season. Today, the air felt like winter, and warm woollies were certainly needed. I used up 215 g / 802 m of yarn, 2 skeins left the stash. The next shawlette is already on the needles, but after that it should be enough for now.
The garden is moving towards the winter rest, the chilis moved indoors yesterday and the strawberries might not live for much longer.

Irgendwie kam das Septemberende etwas überraschend – ich war der Meinung, der hätte mindestens noch eine Woche ;-). Das es Herbst ist, ist nicht zu übersehen – die Blätter an den Bäumen verfärben sich, und es gibt überall Kürbisse zu kaufen (leider aber nur wenige Äpfel, des späten Frostes wegen hier in der Gegend).
Diesen Monat habe ich mir zwei kleine Tücher gestrickt – ausreichend, um sie einmal um den Hals zu wickeln, und damit genau richtig für diese Jahreszeit. Verbraucht habe ich dafür 265 g/ 752 m, 4 Knäuel gingen raus.
Im Garten sind die Tomaten inzwischen alle abgeräumt (der Braunfäule wegen), die Chilis und Bohnen reifen noch. Und es gibt sogar noch vereinzelt ein paar Erdbeeren.
Somehow I did not realise that September has already ended – I thought there was at least another week left 😉 . It is noticeably autumn now – the leaves are changing colour, and one can buy pumpkins everywhere (but only few apples, due to the late frost we experienced in spring).
This month, I knit two small scarves, just big enough to wrap them around the neck once, and perfect for this season. I used up 265 g / 752 m of yarn, 4 skeins left the stash.
In the garden, I took out all tomatoes (because of blight), but the chilis and runner beans are still going strong, and producing fruit. And we still have the odd strawberry.

Dieser Eintrag kommt auch mal wieder zu spät, denn dieses Jahr scheint weder dem Bloggen noch dem Stricken und Gärtnern zuträglich zu sein – frau kommt nämlich so gut wie nichts.
Im August waren wir ausführlich im Urlaub (erstmal mit dem Wohnmobil in Frankreich, dann noch mal in einer Ferienwohnung in Blaubeuren, auf der Schwäbischen Alb). Nach dem Urlaub ging es für mich dann nach Stockholm, und für ein zwei Tage ins Kloster Fischingen zu einer Klausurtagung. Danach gab es eine allerheftigste Erkältung, und am Wochenende darauf fand die Scientifica – die Zürcher Wissenschaftstage – statt. Jetzt herrscht wieder nur der ganz normale Wahnsinn – mit drei Fahrten nach Bern in ebenso vielen Tagen. Wie gut, dass die Schweiz so klein ist. Eine Fahrt nach Bern dauert so lange wie meine ehemalige Pendelstrecke nach Paris 😉
Passend zum Sommer habe ich diesen Monat zwei Hüte aus Baumwollgarn gestrickt, und den Rest zu einem Spüli verarbeitet (der allerdings vom Töchterchen entführt wurde und als Tischdeckchen benutzt wird). Insgesamt habe ich dafür 180.1 g/ 366.6 m verbraucht, es waren knapp 2 Knäuel, die ich verstrickt habe. Ein Strang kam dazu, ein Geburtstagsgeschenk von Ina.
Im Garten gibt es zumindest ein paar Tomaten, Chilis und Erdbeeren, und die Feuerbohnen haben Blüten angesetzt. Die Erbsen sind schon wieder den Nacktschnecken zum Opfer gefallen, den Zucchini und der Aubergine war das Wetter zu lausig. Nächstes Jahr weiss ich dann schon besser, wie (und mit was) ich gärtnern kann.
This entry is also late. This year does not seem to be too great for blogging, let alone knitting and gardening – I don’t really get down to do anything.
August was holiday month – first a trip with the camping car to France, after that a week in a holiday flat in Blaubeuren, in the Swabian Jura). After the holidays I went of to Stockholm, returned with a really bad cold and had to go on a 2-day retreat in a monastary (Kloster Fischingen). The cold was worse after that, but it was Scientifica – the Zurich Science Days – that weekend. Now I am back to the normal crazy, with three trips to Bern in as many days. Thank goodness is the Switzerland fairly small. A trip to Bern takes me as long as my former commute to Paris 😉
Fitting summer, I knit two cotton hats this month, and used up the rest for a dish cloth (which was immediately kidnapped by my daughter who uses it as a table mat). In total, I used 180.1 g/ 366.6 m of yarn, just about 2 skeins. One skein was added, a colourful birthday present I received from Ina.
There are at least a few tomatoes, chilies and strawberries to be harvested, and the scarlet runner beans have started to flower. The peas were once again decimated by the slugs, and the courgettes and aubergines just did not like the lousy weather. I should know a bit better next what and how I can grow in the garden.

Wir sind zwar schon in der 2. Augusthälfte angelangt, den Eintrag für Juli 2017 will ich aber doch nachtragen. Wegen Urlaubs war ich seit Ende Juli mehr oder weniger offline, zudem hat mein Mobiltelefon beschlossen, einen Tauchgang im Hundewassernapf durchführen zu müssen. Es funktioniert aber wieder (einigermassen)… .
Viel zu berichten gibt es aber auch nicht, da der Juli ein sehr arbeitsreicher Monat war, und nur wenig Zeit zum Stricken blieb. Und auch im Garten hat sich nicht viel getan, das Wetter war doch recht wechselhaft.
Ich habe es aber trotzdem geschafft, ein Oberteil zu stricken – nochmal Call it Spring, und habe dabei auch noch meine Reste an Bergereine verstrickt. Dafür habe ich 438 g/ 833 m verbraucht, es waren fast 9 Knäuel, die ich verstrickt habe. Allerdings kamen (Geburtstagsbedingt) acht dazu ;-).
Nächsten Monat gibt es wohl etwas mehr zu berichten (und ein paar mehr Fotos).
Although its already late August, I add an entry for July 2017. I was offline for most of the last weeks because of holidays, and my mobile also decided to take a dive in the dog’s water bowl. It is working again (more or less)… .
There is not much to tell from July, as there was quite a lot going on for work, and not much time was left for knitting. And nothing much happened in the garden either, as the weather was rather variable. But I keep figuring out what works and what does not work in my new garden.
I still managed to knit a top, another Call it Spring, and I used up most of my leftover yarn Bergereine. I used about 438 g/ 833 m, nearly 9 skeins. Eight skeins were added, for birthday reasons ;-).
There will be more to tell next month, and there will be more photos.

Nothing really – there are too many WIPs for my liking that first need to be dealt with. And I need more socks and scarves/shawls for the winter. I expect it to be a bit colder than what we were used to 😉

Irgendwie kann ich es nicht fassen, dass a) das Jahr schon wieder halb rum ist (und nächste Woche die Sommerferien anfangen), b) ich seit 6 Monaten in meinem neuen Job arbeite (und es sich so anfühlt, als hätte ich nie etwas anderes gemacht), und c) wir vor 4 1/2 Monaten in die Schweiz gezogen sind (und es sich so anfühlt, als wären wir schon viel länger hier).
Alles, was sich diesen Monat aktuell auf den Nadeln befand, wurde ignoriert – das Rückenteil von Comodo ist immer noch nur zur Hälfte gestrickt, Campanula fehlt immer noch der 2. Ärmel, und bei Evasion bin ich mir immer noch nicht sicher, ob ich es nun ribbeln soll oder nicht. Stattdessen habe ich noch ein bisschen Babyausstattung gestrickt (ein Lätzchen, Purrrfect bib). Ausserdem habe ich, weil es so warm war, noch ein Sommeroberteil für mich angeschlagen. Dank Ina hatte ich genau das richtige Garn, und habe sehr schnell die richtige Anleitung dafür gefunden (by Drops – Call it Spring).
Ich habe es somit also endlich mal wieder geschafft, etwas mehr Garn aufzubrauchen als die Monate davor – 393.1 g / 897.3 m. 7.5 Knäuel wurden verstrickt, zwei kamen dazu und wurden auch sofort wieder verstrickt (weil ich ein bisschen mehr Garn für das Top brauchte als ich hatte).
I am trying to get to grips with the fact that a) the year is already half gone (and the summer holidays start next week), b) I’ve had a new job for six months now (and it feels like I’ve been doing this forever, in a good sense), and c) we’ve moved to Switzerland 4 1/2 months ago (and it feels like we’ve been living here for much longer than that).
Everything that is currently on the needles was ignored this month – the back of Comodo is still only half knit, Campanula is still lacking the second sleeve, and Evasion is in time out until I make up my mind whether to frog it or not. Instead, I knit a bit more for the baby (a Purrrfect bib), and then, giving the high June temperatures, I cast on summer top for myself. Thanks to Ina, I had the perfect yarn, and also quickly found the perfect pattern to go with it (by Drops – Call it Spring).
So I managed to use up a bit more yarn than the months before – 393.1 grams / 897.3 metres of yarn, 7.5 skeins left the stash, two were added and immediately used up (because I needed a bit more yarn for the top than I had).

Was gibt es noch zu erzählen? Wir können ein paar Erdbeeren ernten, die Tomaten, Feuerbohnen und Zucchini gedeihen (was man vom Salat nicht behaupten kann, der scheint zu verschwinden). Die Kaulquappen haben sich in Minifröschli verwandelt, und verlassen die Teiche, und die Katzen geniessen es, faul auf der Terrasse zu liegen. Mal sehen, was uns der Sommer bringt.
What else is there to tell? We can harvest a few strawberries, the tomatoes, scarlet runner beans and courgettes are doing very well (in contrast to the lettuces which seem to disappear). The tadpoles have turned into miniature frogs and are leaving the ponds, and the cats relax on the terrace. We’ll see what summer brings.

mit ein bisschen Verspätung ;-).

Obwohl ich diesen Monat eigentlich ausreichend Strickzeit hatte, sind mal wieder nur Kleinteile fertig geworden – aber das ist auch gut so, eine Freundin in Frankreich erwartet nächste Woche ihr 4. Kind. Für sie (bzw das Kleine) habe ich die bestsitzende aller Babymützen gestrickt, den Garter Ear Flap Hat von Purl Soho. Und dazu gab es noch ein Paar passende Schühchen (Babyschuhe II von Beate Mieslinger).
Auf den Nadeln sind noch Comodo und Campanula, der noch der 2. Ärmel fehlt. Irgendwann kommt der auch noch… . Einen Nachmittag des Himmelfahrtswochenendes habe ich bei einem gemütlichen Strickplausch auf Ina‘s Terrasse verbracht (und mit lecker Mangosorbet!! Sehr lecker!!), und mich endlich mal wieder an das Tuch Evasion gemacht. Jetzt stimmt zwar alles, aber ich weiss immer noch nicht, ob ich mich mit dem Muster anfreunden kann. Ich mag es nämlich gar nicht, beim Lace-stricken denken zu müssen… .
Verstrickt habe ich diesen Monat 68,4 g / 143,8 m Garn, aus dem Stash raus ging 0,4 Knäuel, rein kamen keine (weil ich die im Januar bestellten Knäuel bei Schwiegerelterns im Wohnzimmer hab liegen lassen). Passiert schon mal 😉
Although there was enough time to knit in this month, I only managed to finish smallish things – but that’s good! A friend in France is expecting her fourth child next week. I knitted for her (or rather the baby) my go-to-baby hat Garter Ear Flap Hat by Purl Soho, and a pair of matching baby shoes (Babyschuhe II von Beate Mieslinger).
Both Comodo and Campanula are still on the needles, Campanula is lacking the second sleeve. It will be added in due time… . One afternoon of the long weekend around Ascension day was spent knitting and nattering on Ina‘s terrace (and I had some moreish mango sorbet!! Excellent!!). I was spending some more time with the shawl Evasion, and I managed to get back on the right track. I still don’t know whether I’ll continue with it, as I me and the pattern don’t get along. I had lace knitting where I need to think… .
This month, I used up 68,4 grams / 143,8 metres of yarn, 0,4 skeins left the stash, none were added (because I managed to forget the two skeins I ordered back in January in my in-laws’s living room). Stuff like that happens ;-).
Im Garten sind der Salat und die Kohlrabi den Nacktschnecken zum Opfer gefallen, anderes gedeiht aber gut, dazu gehören erstaunlicherweise die Zucchini. Der Trick, um sie herum Tagetes zu pflanzen, scheint geholfen zu haben (allerdings nicht den Tagetes). Im Moment bin ich noch dabei, auszuprobieren, was die Schnecken mögen und was nicht.
Lettuce and kohlrabi were decimated by the slugs, other plants are faring much better. Among them, surprisingly enough, the courgettes. It seemed to have helped that I had planted marigolds around them (but not necessarily the marigolds). At this stage, I am figuring out what the slugs like and what they like less.

Im Laufe des Aprils hat sich die neue Normalität etabliert, es gab (Schul)ferien, Osterbesuche bei der Verwandtschaft, Ausflüge (auf die Rigi!), Besuch des Sächsilüüte (Sechseläuten) mit Umzug der Zünfte und der Verbrennung des Böögg, und eine Reise (ich war in Budapest, das erste Mal in meinem Leben). Zeit zum stricken gab es auch, ich habe, nach über sechs Monaten, mein fünftes SpliTTop fertiggestellt. Verstrickt habe ich diesen Monat 182 g / 1 271 m Garn, aus dem Stash raus ging 3.6 Knäuel, rein kamen 8.
The new normality established itself rather well during April, there were (school) holidays, visiting family at Easter, day trips (the Rigi!), witnessing the Sechseläuten with its traditional parade and burning of the “Böögg”, and I was in Budapest (for the first time in my life). There was also time for knitting, I finished my fifth SpliTTop. This month, I used up 182 grams / 1 271 metres of yarn, 3.6 skeins left the stash, 8 were added.

Mit dem 5. SpliTTop bin ich so zufrieden (es ist etwas länger als die anderen, und hat auch etwas längere Ärmel), dass ich mir gleich neues Garn bestellt habe, aus denen ich noch zwei SpliTTops stricken wollte. Aber dann kam alles anders, nach ein bisschen Anstupsen von Ina… . Dank ihr ich habe ich die Designerin Nicola Susen entdeckt – und ihre Anleitungen, die (angeblich) mit jeder Maschenprobe und in jeder Grösse funktionieren. Statt das neue Garn dann zu SpliTTop numero 6 anzuschlagen, habe ich erstmal im Stash gekramt, und wenig später war Comodo auf den Nadeln. Und kurz darauf dann auch noch Campanula… .
I was so happy with the fifth SpliTTop (it is bit longer than the others, and also has slightly longer sleeves) that I ordered enough yarn to knit another two. But things changed when Ina nudged me in a different direction. Thanks to her I discovered the designer Nicola Susen – and her pattern, which reportedly work for any gauge and any size. Instead of using hte yarn to casting on SpliTTop no 6, I went stash diving and cast on Comodo. And rather quickly afterwards, Campanula.
Der April hat uns alles an Wetter beschert, was es so geben kann – von Schnee und Kälte bis Sonne und Wärme. Vorgestern noch lagen bei uns 5 cm Schnee, heute geniessen wir den Tag auf der Terrasse.
April was very inventive in its weather offerings this year – we experienced everything from snow and cold to sun and warmth. The day before yesterday, we still had 5 cm of snow, today, we were enjoying the day on the terrace.

Im Garten ist jetzt auch Salat, Kohlrabi und Mangold gepflanzt, und Radieschen sind gesät. Ich hoffe, dass sich die Eisheiligen nach den Kälteeinbrüchen der letzten Woche gnädig verhalten. Schnee Mitte Mai wäre ja doch ein bisschen viel des guten.
I have also now planted lettuce, Kohlrabi and Swiss chard (how fitting!), and sowed a few radishes. I hope that we will spared any further frost or cold periods after the April weather we’ve been having. Snow in mid May would be a bit much… .
